How can we graze our livestock in a way that improves our soils, enriches our habitats, and also improves the well-being of our animals? Some of the questions are answered by the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture in a new professional publication. This magazine was prepared within the framework of the Grassland-HU LIFE IP project.

This manual introduces an easily understandable method that is increasingly applied in international practice. It is based on many years of observations and research on pastures. The basic thesis is that overgrazing is not just about the density of animals, but rather a matter of timing. Accordingly, the conscious, managed movement of animals and ensuring sufficient regeneration time for the pasture are key for long-term, well-functioning systems.

About 60 percent of our country's grasslands are part of the Natura 2000 network. However, many of these grasslands are not in favourable condition. The Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture (HCA) aims with this publication to share a method simultaneously supporting habitat conservation and competitive, self-sustaining livestock farming.
